Twitter reportedly restricted streaming the blockbuster documentary ‘What is a Woman’ over misgendering concerns.

One of the most trusted social media platforms, Twitter, is reported to restrict the launch of Daily Wire’s hit documentary,” What is a Woman?” on Thursday.

The Daily Wire’s co-CEO, Jeremy Boreing, slammed Twitter for violating their agreement to promote the documentary because subjects in it failed to refer to particular transgender individuals by their preferred pronouns.

According to Boreing, Twitter canceled the launch of the film because it comprises two examples of “misgendering.”

Boreing said they planned to celebrate the anniversary of the film’s release by providing it to Twitter users for free for 24 hours. Twitter enthusiastically agreed to the plan and offered the opportunity to buy a package to host the movie on a dedicated event page and promote the event to every Twitter user over the first 10 hours.

He added, “After the Daily Wire signed the deal, Twitter asked to review the film to check if any part would generate backlash or Trigger users. The team at the social media platform said they were ready for the launch, so we sent them a screener. The deal fell apart once the documentary got into the Silicon Valley firm’s hands. They refused to help with visibility and warned that the film would limit its exposure to viewers and label it as ‘hateful conduct’ because of incidents of ‘misgendering” in the film.’

In a long Twitter thread on Thursday, Boreing posted,” The social media platform would no longer provide us any support and would limit the reach of the film and label it as ‘hateful conduct’ because of ‘misgendering.'”

In his statements, Twitter owner and CEO Elon Musk asserted that attempts to restrict the film were a ‘mistake’ and would be ‘fixed’ soon and said that the streaming “is definitely allowed.”

Replying to Musk’s apology, “Boeing Twitter, “We are trying to reach your team to determine what this means for those posts, whether or not our event tonight will be allowed to proceed, and whether we will be allowed to purchase the live event page and reach block as originally agreed.”

However, the 90-minute documentary faced restriction and failed streaming when it was uploaded to Twitter at 8:13 p.m. and received a label that read-“Visibility Limited. This Tweet may violate Twitter’s rules against Hateful Conduct.”

Earlier, Ron DeSantis also faced technical issues on Twitter during his 2024 presidential bid announcement.

Musk encountered the team at Twitter that attempted to cancel the deal with the Daily Wire to launch its “What is a Woman” documentary.

As per the news, Ella Irwin, the head of Twitter’s Trust and Safety Department, the unit that is probably responsible for the label being displayed, soon resigned from the company on Thursday afternoon.

Many famous personalities, including Ben Shapiro, host of “The Ben Shapiro Show” and editor at the Daily Wire, criticized Twitter’s act restricting the film and noted, “Twitter is now visibility limiting ‘What is a Woman?’ They did it within seconds of its premiere. It cannot be retweeted. Nothing has been fixed. ”

Matt Walsh, star of the film, said, “Twitter put the hate speech tag on my embed of the film. There is someone actively and manually suppressing the film on Twitter.”

The groundbreaking documentary ‘What is a Woman?’ was released last summer in over 70 countries, and the film became the most-watched movie at home soon after the release with a 97% rating.

The documentary featured a movement to protect children from the harmful effects of gender-affirming care or sex change procedures. Following the film’s release, many states have taken the initiative to ban transgender surgeries on minors.
