Donald Trump announced plans to launch a new social media network called TRUTH Social. In a statement, he said the platform would “stand up to the tyranny of big tech”, accusing them of silencing opposing voices in the US.
In the app’s tagline, it says you can increase the reach for your voice by joining and signing up for TRUTH deals, posting videos and photos for the scenarios to keep the world updated, and using their own pre-TR and TRUTH.
The reason behind Truth Social’s hacking on its launch day
As soon as the news broke out the website started getting social and direct traffic. Just after 2 hours of its announcement, the platform got hacked and the website was down for quite some time. The hackers gained access in two hours, creating fake accounts for Trump, far-right personality Steve Bannon, QAnon conspiracy theorist Ron Watkins, and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey who barred Trump from Twitter after his supporters stormed the Capitol. Hackers posted images of defecating pigs and sent expletive-laced rants aimed at Dorsey using the fake “donaldjtrump” account. They also inquired about former first lady Melania Trump’s whereabouts. Other social media platforms circulated images of the hackers’ work.
Who hacked Truth Social Platform?
Requests for comment from the Trump media company were not immediately answered. “We had a blast trolling it to high heaven,” said Aubrey Cottle, a hacker affiliated with Anonymous who goes by the alias Kirtaner. He also made a tweet about the same with a url that leads to some other website called Tmediatech.
