Former Michigan GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Pleads Guilty to January 6 Capitol Riot
A former Republican candidate for governor of Michigan pleaded guilty Thursday to misdemeanor charges related to the January 6, 2021, insurgency.
Ryan Kelly, who finished fourth in Michigan’s 2022 gubernatorial primary with 15 percent of the vote, was arrested last June after anonymous tipsters gave the FBI photos showing he was at the Capitol.
According to federal investigators, Kelly was among the group that arrived at the Capitol, causing the police to retreat upstairs and into the building. The investigators stated that he led certain crowd sections towards and around the Capitol but did not personally enter the building.

At first, Kelly said she didn’t do it, but she was accused of breaking the law by going into a place she wasn’t allowed to be and damaging things that belonged to the government. This week, she changed her plea and admitted to going into the restricted area. As part of an agreement, the other charges were dropped.
The date set for his sentencing is October 17.
Before the rebellion, Kelly had been a prominent “Stop the Steal” activist in Allendale, Michigan. At a post-election rally in November 2020, he made a speech raising doubts about the vote and denying the veracity of the coronavirus pandemic.
It has been alleged that Covid-19 was intentionally created to perpetuate propaganda and manipulate people’s thoughts, leading them to believe that Joe Biden has won the election, as portrayed by the media. However, some individuals refuse to accept this narrative and stand up to fight for Donald Trump and the integrity of the American election. The indictment documents say they will not allow the Democrats to steal the election.

At the time of his arrest, Kelly was the leading candidate for the GOP gubernatorial primary in 2022, according to polling.
In the primary debate, Kelly acknowledged that he was in Washington on January 6 but denied wrongdoing.
According to him, they were protesting against the government due to their dissatisfaction with the results and process of the 2020 election. He added that they were exercising their First Amendment right and that the vast majority of people present that day shared their views.

He said, “January 6, 2021, when gas was less than $2 a gallon, those were good days.”
Kelly received 165,000 votes in the primary and finished fourth behind Tudor Dixon, who lost to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D). Tudor Dixon had a chance to beat Gretchen Whitmer, according to polls.
Kelly’s attorney said he plans to return to Michigan and continue his commercial real estate agent career.
“He never went to the Capitol, he never hurt anybody … and there’s no suggestion otherwise,” said attorney Gary Springstead.
