International Yoga Day 2020 Date, History, Significance, & “Yoga at Home” Theme: The year 2020 is unpredictable for many reasons, be it floods, cyclones, locust swarms, or fire outbreaks, but it is deadly mainly because of the coronavirus pandemic. With this, the world has come to a standstill and slowly is trying to get back the pace.

With the pandemic situation, International Yoga Day will be celebrated inside our houses, and there will be no public gatherings, says the government. One thing that the pandemic taught us, which is essential today, is the need to be healthy and maintain our immunity system. And this why most people encourage Yoga because it keeps you fit and active.

Today, the world knows the benefits of Yoga, and 21st June of every year is celebrated as International Yoga day, where people from all over practice Yoga. The UN has given the world a motto to stand by this Yoga day, which is “Yoga at home, Yoga with Family” The world health organization also encouraged people to practice Yoga daily as they say this has improved the immunity rates from the year 2018. They also said the more active the people are, the healthier the world will be.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi first introduced this proposal in his address at the 69th session of the general assembly, where he said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, a holistic approach that is valuable to our health and well-being. Yoga is not just about exercise; it is a way to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world, and nature.”

International Yoga Day History

The first Yoga day celebration was held in Rajpath New Delhi, where the Prime Minister, along with other dignitaries, performed 21 yoga asanas and created 2 Guinness worlds’ records. The first record was for celebrating with 35,985 people, which is a considerable record, and second was for the maximum number of participating nationalities, which was 84 at that time. Last year PM celebrated International Yoga Day with around 50,000 enthusiasts in Dehradun.
