This article covers detailed information about the Bluesky waitlist, how you can create a Bluesky account and other relevant information about this new decentralized social app.
More and more people are looking for alternatives to Twitter as Elon Musk continues to make changes to the social media platform. There are some who find Mastodon an attractive alternative, but others find it too complex to use.
Yet another decentralized alternative to Twitter hit the App Store late in February – Bluesky. A beta version of the app will be available on iOS and Android devices by invitation only and is backed by Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter.
What is Bluesky?
Bluesky is a decentralized social network. In other words, it runs on an open-source protocol called Authenticated Transfer Protocol, which allows servers to communicate with one another. This app looks very similar to Twitter’s interface to appeal to Twitter users.
It hasn’t rolled out fully yet, but we’ve seen a few glimpses of its features. The Bluesky website allows users to post text and photos, as well as to like and repost the content of others. Similarly to Twitter, users can upload a header picture, a profile picture, and a bio, as well as see how many followers each other has.
Bluesky users call their posts “Skeets,” borrowing the word Tweet and combining it with the word sky.
A number of high-profile Twitter users have joined Bluesky, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, “Guardians of the Galaxy” director, James Gunn, and actors Pom Klementieff and Kumail Nanjiani.
A number of Twitter celebrities are on the platform, signaling that people are interested in migrating from Twitter to something that looks just like Twitter but doesn’t have Elon Musk’s influence.
How can I create a Bluesky account?
Currently, the app is only available by invitation. There is, however, a beta version available for testing on Bluesky’s waitlist. You can receive an invite code from a friend who is already on the app.
The release date of Bluesky is not yet known, but we may see the app hitting the market very soon.
How to join the Bluesky Waitlist?
To join the Bluesky waitlist, you need to follow these simple steps –

That’s it. You have successfully joined the Bluesky app waitlist.
Why is decentralized social networking becoming popular?
According to recent reports, Meta is working on a decentralized social network to compete with Twitter. Similar to Mastodon and Bluesky, Meta’s decentralized social network gives users more control over their social media experience.
The goal of decentralized social media apps is to give users full control over how they consume content. As with traditional social networks, the app determines what people see and when.
Because Twitter Blue subscribers pay for an upgraded version of Twitter, they receive the most visibility on the app. The Bluesky app and other apps like it are working hard to create algorithms that allow users to customize how and when they see the content.
According to Bluesky, users can move their accounts from one provider to another using its AT Protocol. The Bluesky blog states that users can control their algorithm, giving them full control over their experience.
