Giving relief to the family and fans of the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the Centre has recently accepted the Bihar government’s request for a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation probe in his death case.
The CBI was assigned the case of late actor’s death in unnatural conditions when his father KK Singh and the Bihar police allegedly said that Mumbai police hasn’t been investigating the case properly and seems to cover up something.
Who is Gagandeep Gambhir?
According to the latest update, Bihar’s Gagandeep Gambhir who is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 2004 batch, is going to be a part of the CBI team investigating Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case.
The actor’s death case is being probed by a special investigation team under the superintendent of Police Nupur Prasad and will be supervised by Senior IPS officer Manoj Shashidhar along with Gambhir.
In the latest update of the case, CBI has filed a case on Thursday against Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty, 4 more people who could be her family members or associates along with unknown person as accused in the case.
Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case
Talking about the officials supervising the team, senior IPS officer Manoj Shashidhar is a 1994-batch IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre and is currently the joint director of the central agency. He was born and brought up in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur.
Coming to IPS officer Gagandeep Gambhir who is a 2004-batch IPS officer, she has been a senior superintendent of police (SSP) in many districts of the western part of the country. She has been posted in CBI about one and a half years ago.
Gambhir has also been part of the teams which have investigated high-profile cases including big scams as well. She was also the supervisor of the case against the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s role in illegal mining. She has been the part of the teams investigating the Srijan scam and the case against journalist Upendra Rai.
She was also entrusted with an additional charge of DIG in the special investigation team headed by Joint Director Sai Manohar which is investigating the case like Vijay Mallya, coal scam case, and others. Coming back to Sushant’s death case, Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also probing the case as it is suspected that there could be money laundering involved by suspects.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra police have questioned the Bihar police’s jurisdiction in this matter of transferring the case to CBI. A final call in this matter will be taken by the Supreme Court later this week.
