After allegations of sexual misconduct were shared digitally, Ubisoft, the French gaming company which is among the largest video game publishers with games like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, launched a probe in this regard. The chief executive of the company has slammed such toxic behavior as unacceptable after employees condemned the predatory conduct which is leading to resignations.
Earlier in the month of July, two top executives had resigned after the employees condemned the predatory behavior by managers on social media platforms. In the most recent update, the chief creative officer and the company’s second-in-command, Serge Hascoet has resigned as the company pursues an internal investigation into sexual harassment allegations. Additionally, the human resources director Cecile Cornet and the managing director of the Canadian branch Yannis Mallat have also resigned on Sunday.

The company said on Sunday that considering the allegations against many employees that have come from Canada, Mallat can’t continue with his position there. The chief executive and co-founder of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot said that the company has failed to provide a safe and comprehensive environment to its employees. He further added that the toxic behavior is unacceptable as it is totally opposite to the value which he had never compromised with and will never do in the future.
The chief executive said that he is committed to making the required changes across the company to strengthen the workplace culture in it and he will definitely do that. After the resignation of Hascoet, Guillemot will temporarily take over his position as the staff needs to be rebuild.
With 18,000 employees worldwide, Ubisoft is the latest video game organization that has faced allegations of sexual harassment. For the treatment that the women receive in both games and in the real-life, the gaming industry has always been criticized.
The “gamergate” controversy that happened in the U.S. earlier in 2014 summarized the same which saw the critics giving the death and rape threats for the way that the women were depicted in the games and this prompted the need to reform the industry’s culture and vision toward women.
